We hope your 2009 has begun on a good note and that you have recovered from the merriment of the holidays. Our Faery Tails crew has been reflecting on 2008 and looking forward to 2009. In doing so we would like to share a bit of 2008 with you and our plans for the new year.
Last year eleven lucky FTCR pupsters found their forever homes! Most of them had lengthy stays in our foster care before being adopted. Ours is a very small rescue. We focus on the individual dogs in our care and not on the number of adoptions that we can generate. We do not hurry any dog into adoption in order to make room for another dog. Unfortunately, there is ALWAYS another dog. Instead we patiently wait for the appropriate adopter to find us while we are polishing and shining our newly found friends into the gems that we know they really are or will be. While we are patiently waiting with our "no vacancy" signs all aglow, we spend many hours working behind the scenes with other rescues and individuals to help dogs who are not even in our program. We pull dogs from shelters, transport, meet with individuals and their dogs, do courtesy listings on our website and Petfinder page, make numerous calls and send numerous e-mails networking for dogs who never become Faery Tails doggies. The world wide web has made working with other rescues and animal groups a wonderful option that was all but non-existent before. Faery Tails Corgi Rescue is very thankful for the help we receive from networking and we are happy to give in return. It's all about getting a dog into a good situation and then eventually home where they are forever adored. When we can help other groups or individuals who share that goal, we certainly make the effort.
Our promise to care for each FTCR dog for life is a serious commitment therefore we try very hard on the front end to match our fosters to the perfect family or individual adopter for each particular dog. Rescuing, fostering and re homing Corgis, Corgi mixes and sometimes other unfortunate pupsters, is our primary focus. We also very much enjoy gathering with FTCR adopters, alumni, supporters and volunteers at our annual picnic/auction and other adoption events. We have met so many wonderful friends that would have most likely never crossed our paths if not for the needy little dogs that continue to bring us together. Our long distance supporters and adopters have been wonderful as well. It is so exciting to hear from you and to get updates on your furry kids. Thank you ALL for the many ways you find to boost our spirits and give us that second wind.
Faery Tails Corgi Rescue could not exist without it's splendid volunteers, adopters and supporters ...oh yeah, ... and Corgis!!! We have never experienced a Corgi shortage but we can always use more help in the other three categories. Our greatest need is foster homes!!! We understand that this is a scary thought for many and that some families and individuals are just not candidates to have foster dogs in their homes. However, there are others who are possibly interested and have a nice situation for fostering but perhaps are intimidated or concerned that they may feel "stuck" in a long term commitment or may feel that they would not know how to foster or that they may want to keep every dog they foster. Our Faery Tails group would really like to hear from any of you who think you may be interested. We would like to know your situation and what you may have to offer of your time and we would like to discuss any concerns and answer any questions you may have. You would never be asked or expected to overextend yourself. Fostering is a labor of love and should be very rewarding. It IS a big responsibility but should not be a burden. If you are interested in learning more please let us know.
The Faery Tails annual picnic and auction is set for Saturday June 13th and will again be held at the AKC Museum of the Dog. We have such a good time with this event each year! Mark your calendars and don't miss out on the fun. Last year's theme was "Feelin' Groovy" and we did just that with our tie-dye t-shirts and doggie bandannas. Got an idea for this year's theme??? Let's hear it!
The 2008 Faery Tails doggies that found their happily-ever-after homes are: Ella, Teddy (Theo), Phoebe, Dora (Lacey), Benson, Quincy, Laney, LuLu, Bosco, Shelby (Sally) and Mattie (Abbie). We also had the pleasure of fostering sweet Nellie, a Beagle girlie who unexpectedly popped into our lives and hearts in 2008. Nellie found a wonderful forever home as well. Congrats to all the pupsters and their terrific adopters who have so lovingly sought out a friend in need!
As we begin 2009 we have one Corgi in foster care. She is the lovely Lilly Belle! At this time we are not taking in more dogs due to our foster volunteers needing to attend to other "life issues" from health and family matters to home construction to vacations to changes in work schedules. This does not mean that we are not involved in rescue efforts. In fact, this week we have been networking for at least eight Corgis and Corgi mixes that have come to our attention. We will have to re evaluate our foster situation from month to month but rest assured we are not ceasing to foster but are simply unable to do more at this time. Again, thank you all for your support in 2008. May this new year be very to good to you!
Warmly,
The Faery Tails Corgi Rescue Family
