| Just this side of heaven is a place called
Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... |
Darcy Girl November 24, 2001 Darcy was diagnosed with inter-vertebral disc disease soon after settling into foster care. We consulted veterinarians familiar with the Welsh Corgi breeds and disc disease. Surgery was not a good option for her and she was suffering from paralysis and constant pain. After much soul searching we felt that we couldn't put her through any more pain than what she had already endured. |
Chai September 1, 2002 Chai came to us after enduring an unknown trauma which left him very ill and with a broken pelvis. Despite our best efforts and the wonderful help of knowledgeable and dedicated veterinary professionals, Chai developed serious complications. We made the hard decision to end his suffering. He will forever be remembered for his sweet and loving spirit. |
Janie July 28, 2003 Janie came into our program at the venerated age of 11. Her owner had died, and she needed a fresh start. Senior Corgis are delightful companions, and Janie was no exception. She still had a spring in her step and looked good for an old gal (who needed to shed more than a few pounds). Under the watchful eye of her foster family, she lost some weight and was feeling rather spry. She was adopted in October of 2002 by a very special Corgi loving family. Janie passed away peacefully on July 28, 2003 while napping in her family room, in the company of those who loved her. Her family perhaps put it best when they quoted this passage from an unknown source, "It's not that I am lonely for her... I am mutilated for she was a part of me". |
Bliss,
Blaze, Dylan & Steffi![]() Gretchen and Gunnar came to our program when their owner could no longer care for them. Gretchen was already pregnant with puppies and Gunnar was their sire. Gunnar was adopted in January and began his happy new life. Gretchen settled into her foster home and on January 5th Bliss, Blaze, Dylan & Steffi arrived into this world. Their proud foster mom sent out frequent bulletins on their progress. Just like doting Aunties went to visit them in their foster home. Gretchen was a very good mommy and knew just what to do to care for her puppies. We passed around puppies and took pictures and talked about how they all were just so gosh darn cute! Around six weeks of age Bliss's foster mom noticed she was having a hard time eating solid food and not gaining weight like her litter mates. Sadly, after extensive vet work she was diagnosed with megaesophagus. In this condition
the esophagus is many times its normal size, and food collects in this
sort of pouch like shape, and doesn't reach the stomach to be
digested. She was also suffering pneumonia, a common complication
with this condition when food particles enter into the lungs instead of
going to the stomach. Bliss's form of megaesophogus cannot be
repaired surgically, and she would forever be at risk for having
serious and life threatening complications. After learning about her
poor prognosis and considering our limited options for her with our
vet, we decided euthanasia would be the most humane choice for
her. We spent two hours with her on February 17 and said our
good-byes. We will forever remember little Bliss and cherish the
short time we had with her. A week later we received some grim news involving the remaining puppies in
Gretchen's litter. One by one Blaze, Dylan, and then finally
Steffi contracted Parvo, an extremely contagious virus. At
their tender age they were very vulnerable to the virus as they were no
longer nursing and receiving antibodies from their mother's milk
and they had only had their first vaccination to strengthen their
immature immune
systems. Parvo can be deadly for very young pups. Our
babies were in the isolation ward of our veterinary clinic and received
intensive supportive care to help their little bodies battle the
illness. Sadly we lost them to one by one. Blaze on
February 25th, Dylan on February 28th, and Steffi on March 1st.![]() It has been a heart wrenching time for our volunteers as we all mourn the loss of their precious young lives. We wish to thank the people who have made financial donations to help us cover the hospital bills that have accumulated. Thank you for your generosity and kind words of encouragement & support, which have meant so much to each and every one of us. |
Rainey ![]() April 13, 2004 Rainey was adopted from us in November of 2003. In January she was found to have megaesophagus. Rainey's family tried their best to maintain her, but Rainey wasn't doing well. Despite their best efforts she lost weight, and was sick much of the time. They made to brave decision to end her suffering. Rainey will be missed by all of us who mourn her loss. |
Elle October 5, 2003 Perhaps some of you will remember the little Corgi that was lost in St. Louis in September of 2003. She was found after nine anguished days. We received this sad update from her owner, Murray. Elle passed away in her sleep on Sunday night. She was 12 1/2 years old. Elle was a wonderful companion. She took care of me her whole life and even in the end spared me the anguish of having to put her down. |
